First Do No Harm, Second Tell No Lies

My thoughts and things. Parts of my life, memes, fun things and perhaps some insights. Mainly just a place for me to note things down that I feel other may be improved by sharing them.

Wet day in London.

There were thurderstorms hiding somewhere. I don't know where, but they are there. Apparently.

It rained so much outside my local station, it flooded the road. There's a 4.5Mb movie in there too. I'm still getting used to using zoom on the camera (largely it seems to be "don't bother unless you have a tripod or wall") but I got the hang of movie mode and no flash. Shame I can't get any idea of how to make the pictures yet though.

Cars had to drive on the pavement the water was so deep.

Other news - mum's car battery was flat again (replaced just before her birthday)- indicating there was nothing wrong with the old one and there is a fault with the car, though the dealer is adamant it's the battery.

Had a good day looking around the Science Museum. They are building another Difference Engine for a museum in America.

For some reason I started taking pictures of eyes. See if you can say whose they are. Answers on a post card please.

After a 5 hour drive for about 120 miles, around too many MLMs than I care to think about, I finally find the hotel I'm staying in. Shame the printer didn't work or I would have been a bit better off. More of a shame that the GPS doesn't work, but then it wouldn't be much use as Bluetooth doesn't have sufficient range to reage California plus it would nto be useful navigating with a receiver in California while I'm not.

Gah. Well at least I was neither in or the cause of any accidents. The car I'm driving still smells slightly because of the Soy Incident. Best you don't know about that at the moment.

I'm off to Wolverhampton for 2 nights work. At least I have a car this time.

On Saturday I went to a birthday celebration of a friend. For now, pictures are available here.

The celebration started at Bar du Musee in Greenwich, then moved on to the National maritime museum. Everything boaty. interestingly, not a great deal of submarines, but I suppose as they're mostly military.. though they did have a full sized version of the shark shaped submarine mentioned in Episode 12 of The Adventures of Tin Tin.

Then I moved on (at the suggestion of a man doing an interesting talk on solo sailing explorers, mainly Robin Scott Johnson) (who I can't find a link about at the moment - I did stuble over a nudist explorer list, though nudism is not one of my preferred passtimes). Anyway, he suggested looking at the Painted Hall in the Old Royal Naval College. The two pictures I took don't really do it justice.

It's a large picture.
Then we moved on to the Trafalgar Tavern for some much needed refreshment. then to Noodle Time (also in Greenwich) for food - plentiful and cheap, though their serving method is a little confusing, as well as it's naturally noisy in there so the quietly spoken female waitress was difficult to understand,

This no sleeping lark is not much fun. After what to me feels like 3 months of nights (and could be that but I can no longer clearly remember) I still have trouble getting to sleep at nights. Alcohol doesn't help. Neither does hot chocolate or sex. I guess it's the Nytol or other herbal remedies next - and I don't mean drugs, I mean legal things. Legal in the UK and non addictive. Plus they have to taste nice and go with a nice hat.

Hmm, times on this blog are GMT.. (this was posted 00:17 on 15/4/2004).

I'm rediscovering the purgatory of ebay. It is quite thrilling to bid on an auction, even something as dry and faceless as ebay.

I'm mainly shopping for SD cards for the camera I just bought (some test images and movies) - beware - they are huge. 3Mb per picture and the movie is 13Mb. Don't even think of going there unless you have broadband or free access and a lot of time.

I wonder what happened to the guy who came up with cutoffmyfeet.com - it seems to have gone and quite possibly was someone just angling to get free cash.

Quite without realising I have been warwalking for some time, much more so now with Leaves. Wandering about finding what networks are around is interesting. Possibly I'll start logging them. The GPS receiver is waiting to be posted back to California. Sigh.

I am currently in Centre Court shopping in Wimbledon. Yesterday I went on a mercy mission to Mum. Her car battery was dead. It remains to see why, but I bought her a new battery and fitted it. The car is a little badly off with some rust spots, and she still wants me to fit her radio. It is now decided on mum's network provision, I merely have to get it all and fit it. Time to have syslog access through my router.

That's all for now.

So that was short lived. The GPS reciever I bought less than a month ago gave up the ghost. Unbelievable. Now it simply won't charge. It is about as useful as a paperweight and isn't particularly good at that as it weighs very little.

Booger.

Almost a year to the day after my original petition for divorce was sent, I get some kind of response. Confusingly, she is defending the case with a cross petition. I guess it is (thanks, Carrie, for the correction xxx) merely to avoid costs but I was paying those. I'm just worried that she is employing a solicitor (if so, I don't know about it).

Hey, I think I found my ideal job!

Student cards can be handy. Had a nice meal in Frangos (fire grilled chicken) in Kingston with 25% off, Mondays to Thursday only. Swish.
