First Do No Harm, Second Tell No Lies

My thoughts and things. Parts of my life, memes, fun things and perhaps some insights. Mainly just a place for me to note things down that I feel other may be improved by sharing them.

Work is nuts. I will probably need to work weekends (or possibly just this weekend).

Back track a bit.

CE employed someone to do a quality audit on installations of the company we employ to do them. The report was damning (sloppy wortkmanship, bad specifications, improper practices). Now they won't fit stuff, naturally.

So we have to do it ourselves. Which means me and the other guys. Fun fun fun.

Today I was trying to connect 6 relays, 11 cameras and about 3 miles of wire with a variety of connectors. The result was a spiders web of red and black wire interspersed with blure and red spade crimps and receptacles, BNCs and diodes. It almost worked, too.

At the moment I have just flicked through channels to Big Brother live. It's only showing the low light camera view of half of someone's head and all you can hear is some breathing or lightly snoring. Great.

What a blast from the past this is!

Though for most people this is not what the internet is, but it is where it started. Well I mean this kind of information is. I still have some of the textfiles I downloaded ages ago.

Well now, comments are enabled. Don't fill it up, please.

I've had a cold for a week now. It's turned from a sore throat (couldn't swallow) to copious production (you don't want to know) to loss of voice. I went straight from normal to sore. It didn't help that I had to train a new guy and got sent with him to Wolverhampton for 2 nights. I could barely contain my excitement.

Turns out we did such a good job (praised, for once!) that we've got to do it again on Monday. I'm taking tomorrow (Friday) off.

As I said 3 weeks ago, the PostOffice seem to have lost a parcel of mine.

Querying SingaporePost says it left there 29/4/2004. PO have no record of it. I used RMs website to query where it was some time ago.

About 2 weeks later I get this:

Thank you for your enquiry.

The number you quote indicates this was sent using a Royal Mail service. Please contact Royal Mail by calling 08457 740740 or through their website www.royalmail.com.

If you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me again at parcelforce@parcelforce.co.uk. Alternatively, contact our enquiry line on 08708 501150, by Textphone 08000 855857 (for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) or fax on 0113 382 2944.

The second phone number is PF's enquiry line - they are the ones who say there is no record. I think I called the first number and was told to ring the second, though I think I'll have to try that again just to make sure.

I was considering sending the following as a reply:

Hello

The RoyalMail website you mention directs me to ring ParcelForce's track and trace system?

According to Singapore Post Track & trace http://www.singpost.com/RA/status.asp , the item left Singapore 29/4/2004. According to the sender, Singapore Post is waiting for a response from RoyalMail about the item's location.

I don't know which service would be delivering this item, I merely used the RoyalMail's website option 'Contact us' which you now tell me is ParcelForce only - if that's the case, why does it have both options? Wouldn't it be a good idea for customer service to have some link between the two rather than irritating your customers by having a huge delay between submitting the questions and finally getting a response, only to be told they asked the wrong people in the first place?

But I thought it was slightly too sarcastic. So I haven't sent it yet as I'm trying to either get it more sarcastic or less, I've not decided which yet.

I also forgot to mention I'm off to Wolverhampton, again, working nights. Shouldn't be so difficult this time. I'm remitted with the arduous and very difficult task of ... straighening some sensor diodes. Now there's a challenge.

Now I have a cold, I can't actually speak much. In fact, after sounding slightly squeaky then husking now I mainly just don't sound much. It's not completely gone, just mostly gone. I hope it is sunning itself on a beach somewhere and having a lot of fun, cos it better be worth it.
