First Do No Harm, Second Tell No Lies

My thoughts and things. Parts of my life, memes, fun things and perhaps some insights. Mainly just a place for me to note things down that I feel other may be improved by sharing them.

Of several things I missed was Lentil as Anything

As with other memes, I finally got to the movie rating of my life:

Ok I sorted that little thing out.

I'm also fiddling with an Atom/XML feed. If you don't know what this is, don't ask me cos I don't know either.

The post holiday blues are settling around me. On the way to Sainsbury's to get some breakfast (no shopping done on Saturday, bad man) I noticed how I felt about the streets and the way things are. The light is different, the air is different and I felt down about the whole thing. Perhaps it'll go in a while, but it feels stronger than when I came back from Triniadad 2 years ago.

I think I want to move.

Probably due to a replicated posting error in Pocket Blog, there are multiple duplicated entires in the blog at the moment.

I'm looking into it. Amongst other things. As usual.

In Melbourne they have trams, which are a very tourist way of traveling around.

Hello from Melbourne. The train was an experience - and mostly a sleepless one for me - I just couldn't sleep. With someone else's flatulence wafting in through the air vent, random motion of the train rocking me to and fro (though not side to side, from head to toe) ensured I got no more than 3 hours sleep.

Needless to say today is pretty slow.

This is from The Queen Victoria Building in Sydney. Today is the last day here.

There is a market in Oxford Street, an area known as Bondi Junction. I spent time in the park with John (Julie's brother in law) while the ladies went shopping yesterday.

This morning we again had breakfast with Alistair & Andrea. They are from Scotland but have lived in Melbourne for a few years. They are house hunting, in preparation for moving in 3 weeks. Afterwards I walked to Coogee bay. After the storm last night everything looked fresh and the sea was rough.

This post is brought to you by the powerhouse museum. There are six iMacs here with free access to the internet. Though Gmail doen't work on this browser which does seem a little dated.

I just want a Mac again.

Today we went to Taronga Zoo. It's the first visit to a zoo for me since I was in Japan. This one is quite well done. Big plus, though, is that there were meerkats. Afterwards we wandered around town a little, had a coffee then headed home for dinner. We picked Big Frank's Pizza near the B&B and had both a great pizza and a great chat with the two guys who were working there. So we took them the remaining 3 and a half doughnuts (not half eaten!) we had from Monday from Krispy Kreme. One half was of the doughnut had disappeared before we left the shop.

Today we went to the Sydney Aquarium. Spent about 4 hours wandering around. It's well done though I think I want to see the Taronga zoo more. As Finding Nemo was set partly in Sydney there was a big influence from that. Before the zoo a quick visit to a store called Gowings, which has a saying about it inferring failure.

The B&B we are staying at is nice - the Clovelly Bed & Breakfast.

Today we visited the AMP Tower, also known as Centrepoint. 250 metres up gives a good vista of Sydney. The "Skytour" afterwards was a little naff in bits. I bought a new backpack, pensioning off the 'freebee' I got a couple of years ago from a petrol station. To visit the tower we got one week travel passes valid for 7 days from first use for AU$32 then took a bus into town. Wandered around some shops, had lunch then went to the tower. SuperTickets for the tower can be got for AU$61 which includes a ticket for the Aquarium and a harbour cruise. Plus I got a student discount.

After a very good sleep we walked over to the coast up to Clovelly bay (It's pronounced like 'love ellie'). On the way there were 3 helicopters towing large banners - about 3 times the length of the chopper on each side. Also someone had written "Bose" in the sky. Most likely to do with the annual City to Surf run which stops at Bondi beach which is about 2 miles north.

Then off on a trip to the Royal National Park. After a picnic and a trip kayaking on Hacking River. The wildlife seems quite tame, coming over for food, though it is discouraged. We didn't feed the Sulphur crested cockatoos that came within a few metres. Loads of other birds, including a tiny black and white one which moved around waggling it's tail.

Outside the B&B there were a couple of King parrots, but it's too dark to take a photo.

Driving back the idea was to get some Krispy Kreme doughnuts. The drive through queue was about 20 cars and the foot queue was all around the shop, so it was abandoned. By the time we got out, the queue was 6 cars longer and had reached the road. Looks like it's a Sunday afternoon institution.

14:53 07/08/04 Landed in Sydney. 32 hours. Makes driving the van look like a doddle.

Just landed in Kuala Lumpur for a short stopover. I think most people are getting out to smoke after an 24 hour enforced break from their addiction.

We arrived at the airport with plenty of time, which I'm glad about. Now we're checked in. I'm really excited to fly again, like a kid coming up to a birthday. My body is yelling for sleep as I got to bed at 11:30 last night to get up at 2:30 for the taxi at 3. I'm fairly lucky that I can sleep on a plane.

Greetings.

For one night only I'll be staying in The Saville 2 Bond Street. Looks like a nice place.

I leave Friday 6:30am for a 20ish hour trip to Sydney via Vienna (an hour) and Singapore (dunno how long).

I'll be back about the 28th.
